The election for the governor of Virginia is behind us. Glenn Youngkin was elected, and he has promised to ban CRT in the state of Virginia. You might say that parents won that election because they were a formidable opponent to Terry McAuliffe, as much so as Youngkin was. But now what?
The same teachers will be teaching their children, the same school boards (until the next election) will be making decisions about what and how to teach, and the same teachers’ unions will be directing the whole show.
I want to caution you to not lose your focus. Whether you live in Virginia, on the west coast, or anywhere in between, the election of Glenn Youngkin will not protect your children from the bilge of progressive ideology with which they are being indoctrinated. You must still be alert for what is being taught in your own schools. Don’t fall for the wide-eyed proclamations that “we don’t teach CRT in our schools.” If they are so bold as to teach cunningly contrived fabrications about race and history, they are not going to be stopped just because a new governor is elected in one state.
It was not long ago that you parents were fighting Common Core. You did a great job. In August of this year, cnbc.com ran this headline: “States are implementing new educational standards, signaling the end of Common Core.” However, the article ends with these precautionary words:
“The standards that the states have come up with, where they claimed they were different from Common Core, they’re really not that much different,” said Tom Loveless, an educational researcher and former senior fellow at Brookings. “Some states just basically took the Common Core label off and then slapped the new label on the package.”
The end of Common Core might be arriving, but its impacts are here to stay. Watch the video above to learn more about why states are moving away from Common Core. (Emphasis mine.)
I think we all lost our focus on Common Core when it looked like the battle was won. We took our eyes off the ball. (Get a free copy of chapter eight of my book Who’s Got Dibs on Your Kids? by signing up here.) They just “slapped a new label” on it to deceive parents. Keep alert for the same deception occurring with CRT, the 1619 Project, and gender indoctrination. Those impacts will also be here to stay if the fight is not fought all the way to the end.
Go to your own school board meetings. Know who is running the next time they are up for election. Don’t be afraid to stand your ground about what your children are being taught. Well, okay, you can be shaking in your boots, but you have to do it. There is a lot at stake. Use the parents in Loudoun County, Virginia, as examples of what can be achieved. They are ordinary people. If they can get the attention of the entire country, you can at least get the attention of your entire county! Stand up for your kids. You can do this!
