As you check to see what is still good enough after one child has outgrown it to pass it down to the next in line, as you check the sales on crayons, rulers, notebooks, and lunchboxes, as you realize how much they have grown in what seems such a little time, there is something else you should be sure to check: What do those forms you are signing really say? Do you realize that some of those forms may be giving away your right as a parent to object to what is being taught, or the final say over medical treatments?
To start, let me quote a paragraph from my book, Who’s Got Dibs on Your Kids?.
Do you remember when your little darling was about one or two years old, and the strident “NO!” bounced off the walls anytime an unwanted food was approaching, or the car seat became the hated object of the day? Then there was the “I don’t want to” accompanied by a foot stomping. Not all kids go through that stage; it isn’t very pleasant, but you have to admit it gets attention.
If you are going to exercise your parental rights to protect your kids from unwanted overreaching authority, you are going to have to do a little foot stomping yourself, accompanied with a don’t-mess-with-me “NO!”
You may remember the parents in Loudoun County, Virginia did just that. An unanticipated benefit of the students having all their lessons over the computer was parents were able to hear and see what was being taught and how it was being taught. They were incensed and demanded change.
It is easier to put a stop to it before it starts. Some ways to do that are:
- Check to determine if CRT or the 1619 Project will be taught in your school, at any grade level.
- Check if the form regarding medical care (or any form) gives any right to the school without prior parental permission.
- Check to be certain whether the form is an “opt-in” or an “opt-out” form. Try to insist that all forms be “opt-in” but it may be too late in the year for that.
- Check if there is a form that in some way refers to abortion consent and notification rights.
- If the form is ambiguous about what is taught or the school’s right to medically treat your child, write your own adamant statement right on that form, crossing out what you don’t like.
- Tell your child that any form provided by the school must be brought home for you to see and approve or disapprove. Some forms are approved by default if they are not returned with a parent’s signature.
- Be certain what options are available if you do not approve the school’s plans for your child. If you opt-out for your child in sex-education, as an example, what happens during that class time?
- Check out alternative education opportunities if your school does not let you opt-out of CRT, the 1619 Project, LGBTQ and transgender education, etc.
- Monitor all after-school programs or speakers brought in from the outside. One child thought she was going to an after-school art club and it turned out to be indoctrination in LGBT+ matters.
- Make certain you keep a copy of each and every form! If it’s too late, and your kids are already in school and all the forms are back with them, call the office and ask they provide you with copies. It could be important some time in the future.
Regarding transgender influences at school, I suggest you go to the Conservative Education Reform Network and read their page on “How Schools’ Transgender Policies Are Eroding Parents’ Rights” by Luke Berg. It makes four key points, but one of them is, “The increasingly common practice of rushing to “affirm” and facilitate a transition at school without informing parents, and even refusing to follow their wishes, runs directly against a strong body of case law recognizing parents’ constitutional right to raise their children.” (Emphasis added.)
Investigate what your state is doing to prevent such things from happening. Take a look at Mississippi’s Senate Bill 2111. If you like what you read there, see if your state has such a law or is proposing one to have parents have the final say in what medical treatment is or is not provided to their children.
Don’t be dismayed by the opposition you will face. Remember, until 2012 when the American Psychiatric Association did a reversal, “gender identity disorder” had been listed as a mental disorder since the third edition of the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) more than 20 years ago. Time Magazine announced in 2019 that “The World Health Organization Will Stop Classifying Transgender People as Having a ‘Mental Disorder’” and all members of WHO would have until January 2022 to comply.
According to the National Library of Medicine, in a study of 151 people who were of a group having Gender Identity Treatment, “Almost half (48.3%) reported suicidal ideation, 23.8% had attempted suicide. There are higher levels of suicidal ideation and suicide attempts in people with gender dysphoria than in the general population. . . . suicidal ideation is one of the best indicators of the risk of suicidal behaviours.” Is that what you want for your children?
And as I finish for today, let me give you a heads-up about your littlest tykes. You know, the ones still walking around with a can’t-let-go-of soft animal, or blanket, and maybe a thumb that you think is going to grow tight to the tongue in the mouth? Fox News reports “A Yale professor is drawing strong criticism on social media over a video in which she explains that she is part of a university program that helps children as young as 3 years old with their ‘gender journey.’”
