Have you heard about the “Media Literacy” requirement? It was signed into law this week by New Jersey’s governor. Perhaps you are thinking Why should I care about a New Jersey law when I don’t live there? Never forget, everything—good and bad—starts somewhere and metastasizes. So let’s check out this new law.
It covers all students from kindergarten through high school. Its purpose is to teach kids how to recognize misinformation and disinformation. They’ll teach your kids how to identify which sources are credible and which are not. But who makes the decision as to which can be believed and which can’t?
What if an atheist decided the Bible is disinformation and the source is not credible? Of course, that is reaching a bit, for who would say such a thing? That’s tongue-in-cheek, of course. It is happening right now. The Bible’s account of creation is not permitted to be taught in public schools. In some, students may be forbidden to mention it. The only “credible” teachings regarding how the world began are about evolution.
Has your child ever tried to offer an argument against the dangers of anthropogenic climate change? It most likely wouldn’t be allowed. However, over 1,100 scientists and academics signed the World Climate Declaration last year. Its stated positions on page 3, titled “There is no climate emergency,” are:
- Natural as well as anthropogenic factors cause warming
- Warming is far slower than predicted
- Climate policy relies on inadequate models
- CO2 is plant food, the basis of all life on Earth
- Global warming has not increased natural disasters
- Climate policy must respect scientific and economic realities
Will your kids be made aware of the World Climate Declaration in school? Or will their teachers and textbook writers use other information sources deemed more credible?
Let me reinforce the accounting of facts made by those signers of the World Climate Declaration with a few quotes from the document.
The geological archive reveals that Earth’s climate has varied as long as the planet has existed, with natural cold and warm phases. . . . The world has warmed significantly less than predicted by IPCC [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] on the basis of modeled anthropogenic forcing. . . . They do not only exaggerate the effect of greenhouse gases, they also ignore the fact that enriching the atmosphere with CO2 is beneficial. . . . CO2 is not a pollutant. . . . There is no statistical evidence that global warming is intensifying hurricanes, floods, droughts and suchlike natural disasters, or making them more frequent. . . . There is no climate emergency. Therefore, there is no cause for panic and alarm. (Emphases mine.)
Now that we’ve seen only a few instances of how a law like the new one in New Jersey can be used to indoctrinate our kids, be on the lookout for something similar happening in your state. It can be difficult and time-consuming to fight against a proposed law, but it is much easier than getting rid of it once it is in place.
I urge you to read chapter 9 of my book Who’s Got Dibs on Your Kids? which talks about mind-controlling techniques from blatant to subliminal. The deception is nothing new; just the methods change.
